Persistent photoconductivity in barium titanate

چکیده

Annealed bulk crystals of barium titanate (BaTiO3) exhibit persistent photoconductivity (PPC) at room temperature. Samples were annealed in a flowing gas humid argon and hydrogen, with higher flow rate corresponding to larger PPC. When exposed sub-bandgap light, broad infrared (IR) absorption peak appears 5000 cm−1 (2 μm), attributed polaronic or free-carrier from electrons the conduction band. Along increased IR absorption, electrical resistance is reduced by factor approximately two. The threshold photon energy for PPC 2.9 eV, similar case SrTiO3. This similarity suggests that mechanisms are similar: an electron substitutional hydrogen (HO) photoexcited into band, causing proton leave oxygen vacancy attach host atom. barrier recover ground state large such persists

Persistent photoconductivity in strontium titanate.

Persistent photoconductivity was observed in strontium titanate (SrTiO(3)) single crystals. When exposed to sub-bandgap light (2.9 eV or higher) at room temperature, the free-electron concentration increases by over 2 orders of magnitude. After the light is turned off, the enhanced conductivity persists for several days, with negligible decay. From positron lifetime measurements, the persistent...

Barium Titanate Nanoparticles in Block Copolymer

Cubic BaTiO3 particles of∼10 nm were crystallized predominantly within the hydroxylated polybutadiene matrix of a phase separated triblock copolymeric thin film of polystyrene-polybutadiene-polystyrene (Kraton D1102). The barium titanated Kraton thin film had remnants of the cylindrical morphology of a plain Kraton thin film with an interdomain spacing of ∼23 nm. The procedure of barium titanat...

Ferroelectric Lead Zirconate Titanate and Barium Titanate Nanotubes

Wetting of the pore walls of porous templates is a simple and convenient method to prepare nanotubes. Ferroelectric lead zirconate titanate and barium titanate nanotubes were fabricated by wetting of porous silicon templates of polymeric precursors. The ferroand piezoelectric properties of an individual ferroelectric either of a PZT or a BaTiO3 nanotube were electrically characterized by measur...

Visualizing Polarization Domains in Barium Titanate

The 2012 IEEE Visualization Contest’s topic was the detection of phase transitions in ferroelectric materials—in particular, barium titanate (BaTiO3). (For more on the contest, see the sidebar.) Ferroelectric materials’ electric properties make them suitable for a variety of applications. One major application is high-permittivity capacitors. Several ferroelectric materials are promising altern...

Visualization of Polarization Domains in Barium Titanate

We present a combination of techniques from molecular, flow, and scalar data visualization to reveal the characteristics and processes in the data of this year’s IEEE scientific visualization contest. Among the challenges we had to address were the strong thermal vibration of the molecular data as well as the fact that the simulated material did not behave as we would have expected according to...
